“I am really grateful for my senior manager because she played an important role in helping me gain confidence. When first starting this job, I wondered if my responsibilities at work were less than the rest of my peers due to me being hired through Specialisterne. However, she assured me that in a complex environment like a bank, everyone goes through a learning path before getting more responsibilities. She also emphasized that it did not matter which program employees came from – once we are in the bank, we are all part of the team. Our contributions are appreciated and we all receive the same opportunities for growth and career development. This realization has enabled me to say yes to many novel opportunities. It has, more importantly, allowed me to be confident not only at work but also in my personal life.”

“For people on the spectrum to succeed, many need the support of the community as well as the self-awareness and flexibility to learn how to adjust to different environments. When I first came to Canada, I realized that things were so different here and that the world would not change for me. Therefore, I started attending courses for people on the spectrum and have learned insights that I still practice today to navigate the workplace. While taking these classes, I also encountered my current employer. They’ve recognized me as an asset and have created an environment where we can embrace differences, respect individuality, and see the best in everyone. To that end, I believe that cooperation can create success – it is not only important that your community adjusts to you, but you also need to put in the effort to adjust to your community.”
